In New Mexico, as winter transitions to spring, allergens are more prevalent, causing eye irritation, watery eyes and more. We talked with Dr. Drew Casey at Casey Optical Too for tips on how to get some relief from seasonal allergies. "It's getting real windy, starts to kick up those allergens," Dr. Casey said. "So if your eyes are real red, puffy, itchy, it's helpful to just do an over the counter drop. There's one called Pataday. That's an anti-allergy drop, use it once in the morning time, and it really helps with that."
If you're looking for some other methods, Dr. Casey recommends a cool compress. "If you have, like, a cold wash cloth, you can keep on your eyes for about 10 minutes at a time, that can be helpful as well," Dr. Caseys said. "If it is really puffy and you tried those things that didn't work, then come on down. We can always see you and if you need a steroid, then we can definitely do that for you. But usually that artificial or that antihistamine drop over the counter works pretty well."
