You've no doubt seen 'comprehensive eye exam' listed online when you go to make an appointment with your eye doctor, but what exactly does that mean? "So basically a comprehensive eye exam is a series of screening tests to look at everything going on in the eye," explains Dr. Drew Casey. "So we look at how the eyes moves, how you see at different distances and obivously we look at the health of the eye."
One thing to remember is not every eye condition has symptoms or noticeable vision changes, "People always come to the eye doctor when there vision is blurry but if things don't have symptoms, like retinal detachment sometimes don't have symptoms. Diabetes wouldn't have symptoms if there's bleeding. You wouldn't get pain in the eye or anything like that," Dr. Casey says. Talking with your optometrist is the best way to keep an eye on your vision (pun intented). "It's really important to get your eye health checked," Dr. Casey adds. "Without coming in every year, you could have a lot of things going on and never really know about it. Come in keep those eyes healthy. Lets keep that vision as good as we can for as long as we can."
